Paris – Venice 2016: Welcome to Venice (Day 2 Part 1)

Conversations in the Thello cabin withered down after a few minutes and snacking on breadsticks quickly took priority over listening and translating silently. This, too, didn’t last very long (mainly due to the unfortunate lack of enough breadsticks) and sleep became the next item on the to-do list. Though the bedsheets were very thin and small (even for me), I slept quite well and found myself, happily, not falling out of the top bunk. The train arrived at Venice St Lucia station with very little passengers on board at 9:42.

Once we’d left the train, we headed straight to the vaporetto (water bus) on the Grande Canal, validated our new 3-day tickets and sailed directly to our hotel on the Lido di Venezia (taking pictures along the way, of course). After checking in and suddenly finding ourselves indulging in an internet-filled building, dad and I left the hotel again to search for a place to eat. Luckily, there was one directly across the road with, unbeknownst to us, massively over-sized portions. We left the small restaurant just over an hour later (about 15 minutes ago). Time for a nap, methinks.
